The dynamic duo were an awesome team for the Maple Leafs, and later Bernie made his mark on the ice with the Philadelphia Flyers. Those were the days of true heroes behind the fiberglass molded mask of yesterday. Parent was a spirited player who adored fans and he was respected among shooters as one of the best to wear goalie pads. It was sad that an eye injury sidelined his career, but he wowed the crowds and drank from the coveted Stanley Cup and much more to his credit. Like Plante, Sawchu, Biower, Dryden,Giacomin, Worsely, Wakely, Esposito, Cheevers and others he was an inspiration to youngsters all over the world. I wore the sae mask as Parent and Plante and later on donned Giacomin style mask and recall those times with fondness. I was mesmerized by his talent and thrilled with anticipation each game, knowing what he could do. When the Flyers won the Stanley Cup the second time, I was beside myself. My Mom actually let me play hookie to go to the parade in Center City. It was an awesome day. Thank you Flyers and thank you Bernie for being my first sports hero!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28365363.post-53455296958868502852012-01-24T15:59:10.700-08:002012-01-24T15:59:10.700-08:00Although I am too young(18) to have seen Bernie in...Although I am too young(18) to have seen Bernie in his hayday, I went to the 2012 Winter Classic Alumni Game. Wearing the iconic orange and black sweater with #1 stiched onto the back, there is no greater feeling than to watch a true living legend play one last time. (and Win!) When trying to describe how epic 40,000 people chanting "Bernie!" is... you try to do it.

And remember- "Only the Lord saves more than Bernie Parent."Melvin2203noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28365363.post-65120466863382916822011-07-31T16:05:23.527-07:002011-07-31T16:05:23.527-07:00my favorite hockey player ever....nobody had the e...my favorite hockey player ever....nobody had the effortless grace and style of bernie...i was at his last complete game a 2-2 tie in toronto on feb 14th 1979... david frank danieldavidfrankdanielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12705053842845656865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28365363.post-53438327275149884612011-05-17T18:46:15.707-07:002011-05-17T18:46:15.707-07:00The greatest of all time! The greatest of all time!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
